Dental fillings

This can cause significant discomfort and sensitivity when eating hot or cold foods. Cavities are easily treated by a dental filling, which involves drilling out the cavity and filling the tooth with a special material, usually a type of resin or porcelain. Porcelain veneers

Root canals and dental crowns

When cavities are left untreated for too long, the inner tooth pulp may become infected and inflamed. This causes significant tooth pain and must be treated as soon as possible to prevent the infection from spreading. A root canal is a procedure that is used to treat this kind of advanced cavity: the infection is first treated with antibiotics, the diseased tooth pulp then cleared, and the tooth’s nerve ending removed. A special type of filling is used to seal the tooth to prevent any further infections.

In some cases, a root canal may need to be accompanied by a dental crown. A crown is an artificial ‘cap’ – usually made of high-strength porcelain, resin, or gold – that is placed over the top of the tooth after a root canal. Crowns are used to improve the structural integrity of a tooth that has been weakened due to severe decay. Dental implants
